Name: Beth Sowles
Age: 43
Hometown: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Occupation: Government Administrator
Luxury Item: Sock Monkey
Biography
Beth is a 43-year old youngster. Her favorite saying in life
is, “I’m way too young to be this old!” – And she
means it. She lives at home with her cats Prissy and Screech.
She graduated in 1978 from Climax-Scotts High School and in 1981 from
Ferris State University. After graduating
from college she moved to New Orleans for a few years. While living in
New Orleans, she learned that she was sick
and needed surgery and Beth decided to move back home to Michigan.
After moving back home it took a few years before
she found the job she currently holds and has worked at for the past 17
years in Kalamazoo.
Beth enjoys playing the online role-playing game, Everquest, in her
spare time. She finds it ironic that the groups
she plays with daily have no idea that she is decades older than them
and that she is on many “friends” list and
they wait for her to come online. She is also a Disney fanatic and
would like nothing more than to live forevermore
in the Magic Kingdom in Cinderella’s Castle.
One thing is also for certain, nothing is scheduled on Thursday
evenings so that Beth can watch Survivor. For the
Season 6 finale night, she was caught with no power and called many
friends before finding someone who had power
so that she could enjoy the finale – she was ready to check into a
hotel just to watch the show.
Beth has one older sister and one younger brother.
Application Essay
After reading Survivor: Tonga I would really like to be able
to participate in Survivor: Okinawa. The
imersiveness of the game reminds me of playing Everquest which I play
quite a bit.
I’m a 43-year old female who works hard and plays hard. I make all my
own decisions and live with them, too. I
don’t answer to anybody. I’m fairly easy to get along with and have a
great amount of empathy for others. I’m tough
when I need to be and soft when I need to be. Sometimes my feelings are
right out there for everyone to see and
sometimes no one can tell what I’m feeling and/or thinking. If I’m mad
or pissed, I mostly get very quiet <sigh>.
I think I would be an excellent addition to Survivor: Okinawa
because I have an idea on how to play the
game; but have never played before and am extremely enthusiastic about
it and would give it my all – and my heart
and soul!
Finalist Essay
Okay, to be honest, I’ve been thinking about this a lot. What
would make me stand out? For one thing, I don’t
look my age. Everyone tells me that, when people meet me they never
believe me when I tell them how old I am. They
always think I’m about 10 years younger than I am (I love that part).
That could work to my advantage. People wouldn’t
necessarily see me as the “token” old person. Also, I look innocent –
and I’m not. Well, okay I really am <g>,
but when I lie people never believe I’m lying. It’s great. They think
that “with a face like mine” I would be a
terrible liar! Hah! Just depends on what the lie is <weg>.
I can be sorta snarky at times. I mean, people just get on my ever
living last NERVE! At that point, I either have
to blow or hide. There are some people who just seriously wanted to be
slapped. And I seriously wanted to be the
person who did it!
Oh, alright, I have a nice side, too. I just don’t know where it is
right now <sigh>. No, really, my friends
all like me. I’m a good person I just don’t tell people – LOL. I’m
definitely a Disney fanatic. I love going to
Disney World. If it were possible, I’d live in the middle of the Magic
Kingdom and live in Cinderella’s Castle.
Somehow, all those Disney people seem to have a problem with that. Go
figure.
Can you just picture this 43-year old playing Everquest, or Evercrack
as it is sometimes called, with all these
young kids? And they have no idea who that is playing that Monk. They
just that I’m a kick-ass Monk that they love
having on their group. They are always asking me to group with them. In
fact, I’m told I’m on tons of “friends”
lists so they’ll know as soon as I’m online <sigh>. Makes
it harder to solo and look out for yourself, but
I’m definitely aware and can play the group dynamics of the game!
But I also don’t think Survivor is all about lying either. It’s about
holding back some of your cards and not letting
them all show at once – and not to everyone. It’s about being strategic
and open to the winds. I can also be pretty
emotional at times – which could make for some great “tv”.
All in all, I’m your pretty typical person. Okay, with all that said – PICK ME TO PLAY SURVIVOR:
OKINAWA!
